More praise for the Pink Room

The Pink Room at the InterContinental Milwaukee received some more press recently – as it should given the cause.

The latest news is PeterGreenberg.com posted a travel tip on “How you can fight breast cancer while traveling,” and the Pink Room was featured.

The Pink Room has drawn plenty of attention since its creation – and deservedly so.

A few of our associates came up with the “Pink Room” concept for the InterContinental, a property managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

The room has pink accents throughout as well as themed artwork. Guests who stay also can post a blog and do the writing from a pink laptop in the room. A portion of every pink room stay goes to an organization called ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis.

There are actually two Pink Rooms, and both are booked about 90 percent of the time. We’ve found that guests – many of whom have their own personal connections to breast cancer – find it rewarding to stay in the room because a portion of their hotel fees goes to ABCD.

The stays have made a difference. Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for ABCD in just a few years. Even better, ABCD has seen additional money because guests also regularly donate to the organization while logged onto the pink computer in the room.

The Pink Room has earned us free publicity, which is great. It most certainly has brought in some revenue, too.

But sometimes it’s nice to forget the business benefits, and just be part of a team committed to making our corner of the world a better place.
